How to reinforce bag handles without lifting your needle

You know when you want to reinforce a bag handle because you don’t want it to fall off when the bag is full of pints of milk and bags of flour?

This is how I do it starting and finishing at the same point.

Sew your handles into the top of the bag as you usually would and top stitch so that you have two lines of stitching at the top of the bag about an inch apart. Now Think about making the letter N between those lines. Can you see it?

Put your needle in the fabric at the dot where it says start and sew up to the top stitching. At point 1 leave your needle in the fabric, lift your presser foot turn the bag and head towards point 2 as if you are drawing an N. At point 2 leave your needle in the fabric and turn the bag so that you are sewing up toward the top stitching again. At point 3 pivot again and head back to where you started which is now point 4. Pull your top threads to the back and tie them off.
